Obituary For Larry Lee Freeman
Larry Lee Freeman, 82 of Asheville passed away on June 19, 2021 at Hendersonville Health & Rehabilitation. He was a son of the late Maxie Pressley Freeman and Alfred Lee Freeman.
Mr. Freeman served in US Army at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and graduated from Western Carolina University with a degree in Biology. He was involved in the choral society, swim, basketball and dance teams. He won the “Who’s Who” award among all other students attending colleges and universities in 1959-1960. While only in the 8th grade he was the head drummer for WCU Band.
Larry served in the National Park Service for over 40 years, with his last assignment at the Blue Ridge Parkway headquarters. He was a former member of Biltmore Baptist and Lake Hills Church.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 54 years, Doris Parkinson Freeman; son, Michael Freeman and wife Shannon; daughter, Michelle Gossett and husband Terry; grandchildren, Garrett, Cash and Jake Freeman, Dalton and Ty Gossett; and his beloved dog, Chloe. Special thanks to our extended family, for their love and support, Deborah and Robbie Thornberry.
Larry was an avid fisherman and loved hunting, along with all other athletics. He was instrumental in obtaining the football practice field at T.C. Roberson High School. He coached boys and girls basketball at Valley Springs. Larry was chairman of the BVS Little League, chairman of the PTO for Valley Springs and instrumental in obtaining funding for the William W. Estes Elementary School. He was a member and officer for the NC Turkey Federation, member and officer of the Rocky Mount Elk Association, and an honorary member of Trout Unlimited.
Larry was a true gentleman who exhibited patience and kindness to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed. This has only scratched the surface of who Larry was and what he meant to the people around him.
A celebration of his life will be held at the home of his daughter, Michelle Gossett on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 5pm.
