Obituary For Martin Eugene Geyer
Martin Eugene Geyer, 82, of Hendersonville, NC passed away peacefully with family by his side at Advent Hospital on Sunday, October 3, 2021.
Born October 25, 1938, he was the eldest son of Eugene “Lefty” and Mary Geyer (née. Martin) of Hagerstown, MD with brothers David and Jerry. He graduated from Hagerstown High School class of 1956 where he met his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Janet Anne Snyder. They married in 1958 and started their family. He graduated from Shepherd University in 1960 and began a long and successful career at National Cash Register Corporation. He established himself in Washington DC and eventually relocated to raise his family in Naperville, IL where he created his own path as co-owner of Data Terminal Systems of Chicago.
He always said he would return to the mountains he loved and missed so much. At the age of 56, Anne and Marty made their dream retirement a reality in the Carriage Park community of Hendersonville, NC where they have lived for the last 25 years.
Martin made lifelong friends and was proud to be part of each of his communities. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, Welcome Wagon, Four Seasons Rotary Club, The Crooked Creekers and "Over the Hill Gang" golf groups and Grace Lutheran Church in Hendersonville. Anne and Marty traveled extensively, embracing history, cultures and many adventures. He loved food and wine, golf and good times with family and friends, especially hosting from their porch with its magnificent views.
He could fix anything with duct tape or an interesting story. He had a great sense of nostalgia and loved action movies and Westerns, the Washington Redskins, Maryland crabs and the mountains of Hendersonville. He had an infectious smile that seemed he knew something the rest of us did not. He had a sense of humor and genuine love of life. As a natural storyteller, people were drawn to him and he was not shy.
He recently attended his 65th high school reunion seeing family and friends visiting all his old stomping grounds, sharing memories and a Geyer family crab feast with his brothers and cousins.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Anne Geyer. His children are Catherine, Mary Anne, Douglas, and Julie; grandsons Kyle, Alix, Noah, and Dylan; their spouses and extended family.
