Obituary For Mary Jeanne Aardema

Jeanne Gorrell Aardema, age 95, of Hendersonville, finished her battle with Alzheimer’s Disease on the evening of September 17, 2021. She has now joined “Tom”, whom she asked for over and over since he went to Heaven in August of 2017. Peace at last!

Jeanne was born in Greensboro, North Carolina. After High School Graduation she attended Women’s College in Greensboro for a short time. She felt the responsibility of “doing her share” at home, so she went to work full time.

One of the major shining points of her life was her career with the US Air Force in Greensboro. She was hired as a typist/clerk and wrote “special orders” for the soldiers coming through Greensboro, waiting to ship out to WWII. She felt very honored to be doing that job and met many friends.

At the time of her civilian Air Force employment, she caught the eye of a one special Air Force Serviceman, Sgt. Thomas F. (Tom) Aardema, Sr. This began their true “Love Story”.

Jeanne’s life was spent in being Mother to three children. She and her family were very active at Arden Presbyterian Church where she was also the Church Secretary. In later years, she was at Park Ridge Hospital in Patient Registration.

Jeanne leaves behind her three children, Shaw A. Hollingsworth and her husband, Jerry, of Etowah, Thomas F. Aardema Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Weaverville, and Charles M. Aardema and his wife, Linda, of Murfreesboro, TN.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Major Joshua A. Wells, USMC (Ret) of Newport News, VA., Sean Aardema of Weaverville, Ben Aardema of Fletcher, Anna A. Nickell of Murfreesboro, TN and Katrina Aardema of Gallatin, TN. Ten great-grandchildren were a great blessing in her life.

There is no planned service at this time. There will be a Graveside Service planned for Friends and Family at a future date.

The Family wishes to express deep gratitude to the folks at Flesher’s Fairview Health and Retirement Center for making the last years of our Mother’s life the best it could possibly be! She was well-loved there.

In lieu of flowers, donation in Jeanne’s memory may be directed to Flesher’s Fairview Health Center, Employee Fund, 3016 Cane Creek Road, Fairview, N.C. 28730.

She was a beautiful woman inside and out. She made the best chicken and rice. I still follow her recipe.

Jeanne was such a kind person. One day at mealtime we choreographed a dance to show the other residents when we had a chance. She would always give me life lessons and advice. I will never forget her and her wise words.

Jeanne was such a sweet woman, it was an honor to have been able to meet her and take care of her for the years that I did. She is finally reunited with her Tom. For that I am thankful! All of my love and prayers goes out to her sweet family. Love you all!
