Obituary For Mary Mildred Mitchell
Mary "Mildred" Cooper Mitchell went peacefully to her heavenly home on August 26, 2021. She was born in Elkin, NC on June 2, 1936, to the late Martha "Leona" Shore Cooper and Grady "Cline" Cooper, Sr. Mildred spent her childhood years in Elkin, graduating from Elkin High School in 1954, then worked over 40 years for R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in Winston-Salem, NC and a number of years for K & W Cafeteria. After retirement, she worked for W-S/Forsyth Co. Schools in several elementary school cafeterias.
Mildred was an avid gardener, accomplished artist, and genealogist, spending countless hours researching family history. Love of family was most dear to her heart, and she was a devoted mother to her son, Samuel Thomas "Tommy" Mitchell, Jr., (Valerie), granddaughter Erin Mitchell, great granddaughter, Nia Gaskin, step granddaughter Jennie Branscomb, step great grandsons, Daniel Starr and Lane Dodd.
In addition to her parents preceding her in death were two brothers, Grady Cline "G. C." Cooper, Jr.(MaryAnn), and Jackie Cooper, one sister, Melrose Temple, and one brother-in-law, Rick Covington. Also, surviving are two sisters, Linda Covington, and Wanda Swaim(Ronnie), one sister-in-law, Barbara Cooper, and many loved and cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mildred attended Clemmons Baptist Church, but was a lifetime member of Elkin Valley Baptist. Arrangements have been made for a memorial service in the cemetery at Elkin Valley Baptist Church on Sept. 12, 2021 at 2:00 pm., with Dr. Johnny Blevins officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Christian Life Center where light refreshments will be served. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elkin Valley Baptist for their Missions/Outreach program.
