Harriett “Hattie” Davis Proffitt passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 90 from complications from Covid-19 on August 15, 2020 at the Laurels of Summit Ridge. A native of Asheville, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Proffitt; parents, John C. and Mary R. Davis; two sisters, Elizbeth Davis, Ruth Banks (Eugene); two brothers, Arnold Davis and George Everette Davi;, two grandchildren, Andy Lee and Mary Ruth Morrow; and a daughter, Sandra M. Burton.
She lived life on her own terms. She worked as a nurse up until her time of retirement. Her love of country music inspired her to sing, write and perform her songs on stages from Nashville, Tennessee to local televised stations.
She leaves behind six children, David D. Proffitt (Amanda), Richard C. Proffitt, Mary P. Ellis (David), Bobby Proffitt, Paul G. Proffitt (Marilyn) and Lisa M. Proffitt; eight grandchildren, Angela M. Park, M. Elise Bugg (Christian) Amanda L. Buchanan, Justin Wilson, Casey Wilson, and Colton Wilson, Christopher D. Ellis (Hannah), Victoria L. Meece (Nick); five great-grandchildren, Trevor Park (Natalie), Chad Park, Arianna Bugg, Maddox Bugg, and Riley Weir.
Private entombment will be held at Lewis Memorial Park.
