John H. “Pete” Stone, 87, of Flat Rock, NC and widower of Marilyn R. Stone, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Pardee Hospital. He was born in Springfield, VT, son of the late Carolyn Parison and Henry G. Stone. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert S. Stone and Richard A. Stone. He lived in Henderson County for the past 23 years, moving from Sun Lakes, Arizona.
Pete graduated in 1950 from Manter Hall School in Cambridge, Massachusetts before being drafted into the US Army where he served as a Mess Sergeant during the Korean War. His working years led him to become a restaurant cook, salesman and a mail carrier for the USPS.
He loved to play golf, tennis and pool. Pete was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville, where he was a volunteer. He was a long-standing member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners.
Pete was a patriot, solid citizen, good father and husband. He was approachable, honest and forthright, a very loving, generous and sincere man.
Survivors include his son, Brian S. Stone and wife, Rosemary, of Winchester, KY; three daughters, Lynn Stone of North Port, FL; Karen Stone and husband, Richard Kelly, of Folsom, CA; and Cheryl Hamilton and husband, William, of Trussville, AL; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A Masonic Service will be held at 2 pm, Monday, March 25th in the Memorial Gardens of First United Methodist Church, Hendersonville. A Celebration of Life will follow in the church.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Four Seasons Hospice of Hendersonville or to the National Cancer Society for the research of breast cancer.
