Juanita Widdel Jennings died Friday, March 1, 2019 at the age of 93, at the Brian Health and Rehabilitation Center in Weaverville, North Carolina, from natural causes.
Juanita was born June 10, 1925 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin and Gertrude Fuller Widdel. Juanita graduated from East High School in Waterloo, Iowa.
Juanita married John “Jack” Jennings; later they divorced. Juanita worked for many years in the Waterloo School System as a teacher’s aide. After retiring and moving to Columbia, South Carolina, Juanita worked for numerous years as a hospital volunteer at Providence Hospital. Juanita loved sports as a fan and a participant especially in bowling and golf. Later in her life, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in sporting and extracurricular events.
Juanita was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in Waterloo, Iowa. Juanita later attended the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbia, South Carolina.
Juanita was a loving, positive and supportive mother, grandmother and friend. Juanita always “put her best foot forward” and took time “to stop and smell the roses “and encouraged others to do the same. Juanita will be missed but her spirit lives on in the many people she touched in her long and fruitful life.
Juanita is survived by two sons: Richard (Barbara Powell) Jennings of Columbia, SC and Jeffrey Jennings of Washington State; four grandchildren: Christopher, David, Michelle and Amanda; two step-grandchildren: Meredith and Virginia; and three great-grandchildren: Madison, Cole and Declan. Juanita is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Margurite Widdel Mundale and her brother Donald “Bud” Widdel.
