Kay Smith Whitener September 9, 1963 - July 17, 2020

Kay Smith Whitener, 56, of Hickory passed away on Friday, July 17, 2020 at Mission Hospital.  She was the daughter of the late Christine Carswell Teague.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Larry Wayne Whitener.

Kay loved plants and could grow anything.  She enjoyed home repairs and working on cars, her nickname became “tool time Kay”.  An avid reader, she read all Stephen King books made and enjoyed Dean Koontz books as well.  Most importantly she loved God and Jesus Christ.  She was an amazing mother and Nana who will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Surviving her is a daughter, Jessica Nicole Dotson, a son, Robert Wayne Whitener; three granddaughters, Kayjah Zavionã Dotson, Jasmine Neyasja Whitener, Karmuh Nichole Whitener; one grandson, Dontae Zavion Dotson; two sisters, Mary Smith and Patsy Teague.

Private services will be held at a later date.

    Momma Kay, Where do I begin, I met you at Hilltop apartments when I was 11 I babysit Nickey& Robbie for you Alot& we all piled up in your huge Waterbed And laughed& Talked till Sun came up..You were best friends with my parents& Family I know your with your Momma now& Your Friends Again Tell them hello& I love them& I’ll see you Again When it’s my Time Until then u rest My sweet Angel I’ll never Forget You????

    Your mother and mine were neighbors. Although i knew her but a short time, her good nature and positive spirit was contagious. She was very much loved by all in the courtyard and she will be greatly missed. May you all find comfort in your memories. I’m truly sorry for your loss.
